SAND Meeting Notes – Thursday, October 8, 2020

SAND held elections for 2021 Officers, newly elected officers and committee chairs include: Christian Mendonca – President; Mike Snyder – Vice President; David Lorenz-McElroy – Benteen Park representative; Amanda Harwood – Boulevard Heights representative; Rashawn Johnson – Custer-McDonough-Guice representative; Sandy Lee – Ormewood Park Representative; Rachel Ezzo – Education Chair.

Trees Atlanta came to present on both the Plantlanta, which includes a planting in Benteen Park, as well as community initiatives, including neighborhood canopy assessments. 

An update was given on the NPU Community Impact Grant, please visit the SAND website www.sandatlanta.org, to learn more about the process and to submit clues to the neighborhood Cluetown scavenger hunt!

We voted on the following LUZ applications: 1046-1056 Berne Street: an application to rezone two R-4 parcels to R-4A, to allow for a future subdivision to create a new third parcel – voted to approve. 1154 Gracewood Avenue: setback variance and to increase the allowable size of an accessory structure from 30% to 98.8% of the main structure, to allow for a second story addition to an existing detached garage – voted to approve. 1565 Moreland Avenue. (rear) An ordinance to rezone the subject property from R-4 to MRC-1 to accommodate surface parking for adjacent commercial property – voted to approve with conditions that it will only be used for surface parking.
