Calendar May-June 2019

Calendar events take place in southeast Atlanta, the area south of I-20 to Moreland Drive, and includes Grant Park, Ormewood Park, and East Atlanta.

The following activities take place every week as listed.

CHILDREN/STORY TIME

Tiny Tots Storytime. East Atlanta Library, 400 Flat Shoals Avenue SE, for newborns to 5 years, 10:30am (every Tue).

Sunday Running Group. East Atlanta Village, meet at Flat Shoals and Glenwood Avenues near Joe’s Coffee Shop, 3-mile run, 9:00am (Every Sunday).

Friendship Center. Church of the Holy Comforter, 737 Woodland Avenue SE, 9:00am-1:00pm (Tues and Thurs).

Art Shows at the East Atlanta Library. 400 Flat Shoals Avenue SE, meeting room. Open during regular library hours. Ask at the circulation desk if the room is locked and unoccupied. Shows typically change every two months. Check the library lobby area on the bulletin board and inside the library for additional information.

Toastmasters for Kids and Teens. Toastmaster workshops are designed to help young people build their communication and leadership skills to become leaders in theirs schools and communities. East Atlanta Branch Library. 4pm. (Every Sat.)

Wednesday Meditation and Relaxation. Instructor Sedrick Gardner. Meditation is a practice to aid in mental clarity and emotional calm. For adults. East Atlanta Branch Library, 400 Flat Shoals Avenue SE, 12pm-1 pm. (Every Wed.)

AARP Free Tax Preparation & Filing. Every Friday 12pm-3pm. First come first serve. East Atlanta Branch Library, 400 Flat Shoals Avenue SE. 10am-3pm (every Thurs).

May 26    Holy Taco Pop Up 2019. Live music, tons of vendors, drink specials, live llamas, and more! This is a kid friendly event, so bring the little ones. Hosted by Chris Wright and Kate Logan. 1314 Glenwood Ave SE. 12pm-7pm.

May 27    Memorial Day

June 1    Brownwood Park Projects. We recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Our projects include removal of exotic invasive plants and replanting of native species. Tools, gloves, and instruction provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. 9am-12pm (1st Saturday of the month).

June 15     Keeper for a Day: Giant Panda, Zoo Atlanta. How do you care for a giant panda? Ages 14 and up. Learn more on www.zooatlanta.org.

Family NightCrawlers. Spend the night in the Zoo. See more and register on www.zooatlanta.org Nature Play Club, Zoo Atlanta. Identify pollinators, discover the different parts of flowers, and build seed bombs to spread wildflowers in your backyard. This program is free, but registration is required. June 15-16    Art Gone Wild Art Sale, Zoo Atlanta. View a special gallery exhibition of the finished masterpieces created during Art Gone Wild Paint-Out Week. Entry to the gallery is included with general admission. See more details on www.zooatlanta.org.

June 17-July 19    East Atlanta Kids Club Summer Sci-Tech Fund and Fitness Camp. Four one-week sessions.     Keeper for a Day: Show Birds and Animal Ambassadors, Zoo Atlanta. Spend the morning with the Zoo’s education animal ambassadors, and venture behind the scenes to the World of Wild Theater to help with the afternoon show. Participants must be at least 14 years old.
