New Directions for Boulevard Heights

By Stacey Martin
The Boulevard Heights Community would like to thank James Palmer for three years of service as president of the neighborhood organization. Palmer’s efforts have benefited residents of Boulevard Heights in numerous ways, and they look forward to his continued involvement on the Atlanta Public School issues that concern the neighborhood.
On July 18, the neighborhood elected Stacey Martin to serve a one-year term as president. Stacey has identified a few priorities for the neighborhood designed to increase community outreach, improve participation in the organization, and provide more frequent opportunities for neighbors to meet and socialize.
Members of the neighborhood organization have agreed to reduce the frequency of meetings to every other month (the next meeting will be Monday, September 19) and change the meeting format in an effort to increase participation. Meetings will be less formal with an abbreviated business portion to allow time for socialization, and neighbors are invited to bring hotdogs or burgers for grilling. The location of the next meeting will be announced on the Boulevard Heights Community site, http://groups.google.com/group/boulevardheights in the near future. By reducing the frequency of meetings, they hope to prevent meeting fatigue and improve attendance at other community meetings such as SAND and NPU-W.
The organization will be drafting a community newsletter to be distributed throughout the neighborhood. The plan is for this to be a biannual effort. This will improve outreach to a significant number of neighbors who are not active members of Google Groups because of personal choice or lack of knowledge concerning our online presence.
In the very near future, the community will also have a website. This website will not be an open discussion forum, but a place to highlight our great neighborhood and provide updates on meetings, parties, and other events, as well as links to government services, surrounding community websites, and local businesses. Boulevard Heights will also be having a neighborhood fall party.
