Depetris Art Reception in April

By Henry Bryant
Internationally known artist Mariana Depetris, in conjunction with the Friends of East Atlanta Library and the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, will host a reception for her artwork, now on display at the East Atlanta Library, on Saturday, April 7. If you have not seen the artwork, you are invited to come check it out. All are invited to meet the artist and learn more about the work at the reception, which will be held at the library from 3:30pm until 5:30pm.
In a statement about her work, Mariana says her “ideas freeze childhood moments that could have a threatening edge to them, since I mix different signs and icons belonging to different traditions.” There is a lot of symbolism with rendering by Mariana’s hand in prints that combine different media. The result can be a little unsettling while at the same time possessing charm and holding meaning.
Friends of East Atlanta Acting President Mike Pousman said, “The Friends and the East Atlanta Library are lucky to have Ms. Depetris, who has received acclaim at so many galleries and exhibitions around the globe and nearer to home.”
To access the Depetris art show during regular library hours, ask at the circulation desk and the librarian will let you in (if the room is not in use). The library is located at 400 Flat Shoals Avenue in the East Atlanta Village.
