Llamas Invade East Atlanta Village for Pub Crawl Fundraiser

By Kara O’Brien
Six well-behaved llamas and one baby kangaroo hit the streets and bars of East Atlanta Village with hundreds of excited party goers for a fundraiser event called “Drinking with Llamas While Wearing Pajamas” on February 17, thus answering the age-old question, “What could be more fun than drinking with llamas?”
The event frequented four popular bars in East Atlanta Village, kicking off at The Earl, strolling down to Flatiron, then to 529 Club, and wrapping up at Midway. Llama enthusiasts were encouraged to support Southeastern Llama Rescue (SELR) while sporting jammies and llama T-shirts, and enjoying tasty drinks and food. Party-goers helped SELR by purchasing raffle tickets, llama pellets and alfalfa, T-shirts, and posing for selfies with the baby kangaroo. SELR raised more than $3,000 toward rescuing and vetting llamas and alpacas.
SELR is dedicated to improving the well-being of abused, neglected, unwanted, and behaviorally unmanageable llamas and alpacas through prevention, education, intervention, placement, and lifelong care. Funds raised go to save animals from the trendy llama/alpaca meat market, foster and feed care for the animals, and support training efforts. You can learn more at www.southeastllamarescue.org.
If you missed this event, the llamas will be making another celebrity appearance at the East Atlanta Strut in September.
