Productive 2107 for Neighbor in Need East Atlanta

By Carlen Ruth Hultgren
Neighbor in Need (NIN) East Atlanta has had a very productive 2017. The organization is truly proud of the accomplishments and looks forward to a bigger and better year in 2018.
The year started strong with Annual Spring Poker Tournament where 24 plus attendees raised $2,562, the Recycle event raised $365, the10th Annual May on May Block Party and Fundraiser raised $3,144, Go Fund Me raised $1,109, Greatest Show in EAV Circus Gala and Fundraiser raised $25,113, Sides for Senior’s raised $1000, Santa’s for Seniors raised over $1282 and delivered 25 gift bags. Total donations were $34,294.
2017 was NIN’s biggest year ever in home repairs. Over 46 projects were completed, costing over $34,000. Projects ranged from four roof repair jobs, including two full roof replacements costing $10,525, two large window replacement jobs, ten plumbing repairs costing $6,086, five floor repairs, together costing $5,626, two new refrigerators and one stove repair, costing $1,000, two tree limb removals costing $1,400. Additional jobs include: AC repair and unit replacements, mold remediation, toilet replacements, installation of ADA bars, and ceiling repair. Since Neighbor in Need East Atlanta started in 2010, they have completed over 185 repair jobs costing just over $150,000.
2017 was the year that Neighbor in Need took on the extra step to help seniors with more than just home repairs. The humanitarian projects, while often last minute, were hugely successful and made a great impact on neighborhood seniors. The humanitarian projects in 2017 included the Hurricane Irma Care Packages (September), Sides for Senior’s (Thanksgiving), and Santa for Senior’s (Christmas).
With so much on their plate for 2018, including looking for team members to join the committee to help with social media and marketing, NIN will be recruiting a team to head up the 2018 Annual Fundraiser gala.
Neighbor in Need does a lot of fund-raising to help keep the program going. Most of the funds to support client projects are received through fund-raising initiatives and financial donations. The organization is very grateful to the East Atlanta community that regularly supports these projects and events.
