SEABA Updates

By Ashley McCartney
On Annual Meeting was held on December 19, 2013 at Milltown Arms Tavern. Milltown provided a generous spread of goodies and a marine joined us for the Toys for Tots drive! Over the past few years, our membership has increased from 18 in 2011 to 32 in 2012 and 42 in 2013. We also added a new board member, Michele Swing, in 2013. In addition to our regular soirees and business luncheons, we hosted two Candidates Forums this year, one for City Council and one for Atlanta School Board. We have also been active in the fight against the current development proposed for Glenwood Park. We hope our efforts to be an asset to the community are working and we are always up for suggestions on improvement.
On January 23, 2014, Zoo Atlanta hosted us for our first Business Luncheon of the year. The presentation was focused on public safety in the area. David Wilkinson from the Atlanta Police Foundation and Gladys Mays from the Crime Prevention Unit, along with several of her colleagues, spoke on public safety topics ranging from the Secure Neighborhood Initiative, Business Watch, Crime Stoppers and other various programs designed to protect our neighborhoods and businesses. This popular topic brought out sixteen guests, including various neighborhood leaders in the area and Councilmember Mary Norwood. We thank Zoo Atlanta for hosting us again and look forward to our next luncheon there in April of 2014.
On February 20, 2014, Edgewood Corner Tavern will be hosting our business networking soiree from 5:30-7:15 p.m. This is our first soiree of 2014 and also a first at Edgewood Corner Tavern. As always, we will be provided with some snacks to munch on and we are responsible for our own bar tabs. Bring your business cards! This is where deals get started.
