Updates
– Land Use & Zoning, Ed Gilgor
- Application on Ormewood for front and side setback variation to allow for adding a 2nd story; application was approved
- Application at 792 and 798 Stokeswood for variance to front setback
- Separate application for stream buffer variance currently before City of Atlanta
- Motion to deny the application; 9-9-5 vote, application will move forward to the NPU meeting
– NPU-W Representatives
- 8 nominees to represent EACA in NPU-W were approved

– Public Safety, Zone 6, Lieutenant Floyd
- Overall zone 6 crime is down; year-over-year increase is 3%, was 12% in July
- East Atlanta experiencing burglary; typical at this time of year
- Putting extra patrols in the area; joint efforts with DeKalb County (e.g., safety checkpoints)
- Precautions:
- Get an alarm! #1 way to notify police of an incident
- Don’t leave boxes from new purchases at the street—they notify criminals
- Make sure valuables are removed / aren’t visible
- Be aware of surroundings
- Call in suspicious activity—residents are the best eyes and ears

- Traffic concerns re: speeding on Moreland, dangerous conditions for pedestrians
- Resident relayed situation where police were called, didn’t come, and had to be re-called 10 minutes later; dispatch said the police would be there “as soon as they can”

- New stop sign on Flat shoals—will warnings or tickets be issued? Can a sign indicating new stop sign also be installed?

- Steve suggested that traffic concerns and other issues can be brought to the NPU-W Transportation committee (meets 1 hour before general NPU meeting); Public Safety committee meets at the same time
– Kevin mentioned that EACA has expanded to include DeKalb County Public Safety chair (and others) to ensure our entire community is represented
– Streetscape
- Project is still in progress; expected completion in December
- EACA will be holding the City accountable
– Neighborwoods and Trees Atlanta
- Tree planting coming up on December 14th
- Last year planted 70 trees
- Target area is near Brownwood Park; but any part of East Atlanta is viable
- Also looking for volunteers, meeting at Dragon in Brownwood Park at 9 AM; no tools necessary
– EAV Christmas
- Northstar Christmas Trees (Keith Johnson) will be selling trees in the former BMW lot (1321 Glenwood)
- Northstar has been involved in the community for several years
- Donated trees to EACA, Village Church, Martha Brown
- Clippings and boughs get boxed and passed through the community
- Used trees taken to the Zoo
- Northstar doesn’t sell live trees because Atlanta’s climate wouldn’t support it
- Trees will be available starting after Thanksgiving
- East Atlanta Santa on December 7th-8th
- Craft market (also on Thursday 12/12, 12/19), photos with Santa, tree lighting, parade, music
- EACA will host a section of the 1321 Glenwood lot for tree decorating, crafts, etc.

– EACA’s various committees received 5 grants from the East Atlanta Foundation (Beer Fest) this year

- New East Atlanta Village editor of the Porch Press – Carlen Hultgren is taking over for Marc Takacs

- December meeting will also include a potluck, but also regular business
