GPNA Meeting Minutes, June 2013

7:36pm: Meeting commenced
President, Lauren Rocereta

• Welcomed everyone and instructed people to make sure they sign in
• Explained the agenda and open floor rules
• Thank you to the zoo for allowing the use of the building
• Explained voting eligibility
• Next meeting is Tuesday, July 16 at 7:30pm
• New member welcome and introductions
• Oakland Cemetery

• Mary, David, and Ashley representing Oakland Cemetery are asking for support of Sunday in the Park (34th year) and Halloween Tour. Sunday in the Park is a Victorian-themed event with a $5 donation request. The Halloween Tour has been expanded to five nights on October 18-19 and October 24-27. Costume actors provide guided tours. Tickets are $20 adults, $10 children 11 and under. Tickets go on sale July 15. Motion made in support, seconded and moved without opposition.

  • Application from Young Augustine’s requesting to change applicant name for liquor license as owner is moving to Florida

      • Bicycle larceny from yard; make sure to secure bicycles when not in use
      • Beware of your cellular phones at all times
      • Trestle Tree – the new owner is very sensitive to the neighbors’ concerns regarding crime issues originating from there and has hired off-duty officers
      • NPU-W is trying to work for a street closing to supply gated access at Eloise Street and Confederate Court
      • Report streetlight outages at www.gpna.org
      • Crime alert, email notifications – sign up at www.gpna.org
      • Grant Park Safety Patrol – neighborhood patrol consists of five (5) officers doing 30 hours a week

• Eventide Brewery on 1015 Grant Street; introduction as they are new to the neighborhood
  • Submitted liquor license application which is required due to the nature of their business but they will not be selling to the public at this time.
  • Wholesale and manufacturing facility
  • Motioned, seconded, and moved without opposition
• Zone 6 Officer Wilson for evening watch
  • If suspicious activity is seen, report it so that a record can be kept, which enables better tracking of troubled areas
  • Report generators, vehicles and amplified noise in the park

Vice President, Jeff Rogers

• Passed around sign-up and volunteer sheet, make sure info is correct
• Advised contact info for committee chairs and officers can be found on the agenda

President, Lauren Rocereta

• GPPN – New president has appointed a chair and vice chair for GPNA

Land Use and Zoning Committee Chair, Rick Hudson

• 303 Oakland Avenue – single-family dwelling that was sold to AHA due to condition has applied for demolition permit; recommendation to support AHA CA4-ph-1-7 as the foundation is very poor and one report stated it was at risk of collapsing within seven years. Neighbors of the property voted unanimously in favor. Motioned, seconded, and moved without opposition.
• 800 Glenwood Avenue – discussed with councilmember, Carla Smith, that GPNA supports the Beltline Master Plan. Carla Smith introduced rezoning for high density, which is in line with the Beltline Master Plan. Body was asked for support of the rezoning.

• Discussion regarding the 9-floor mixed use building that was originally vetoed; it was stated that this rezoning is the only classification in line with the Beltline Master Plan
• Discussion regarding transportation concerns and that they be re-evaluated to accommodate the high density rezoning
• Motion from the committee; seconded and moved without opposition (legislation was already introduced, body asked to support)
• Next Meeting is July 11 from 7:00 to 9:00pm

Fundraising Committee Chair, Nicole Levine

• The Moth Ball will be a Hootenanny-themed event in the fall. Next meeting to discuss plans will be June 25 at 6:30pm at Ziba’s

Parks and Recreation Committee Chair, Robert Greenage

• June 7: Deloitte did an impact day where 100 employees came out to help clean up the park
• Several upcoming races, family reunions, and festivals planned
• Working to complete a lighting survey throughout the park
• Zoo Atlanta will be planting 170 new trees in the park because of the new reptile house expansion
• Formal complaint filed with the city against the mowers
• Summer Shade Festival will take place August 24 and 25
• Trees Atlanta doing a tree walk June 29
• Peach Jam June 30
• Next meeting June 27 at 6:30pm

• John Wells representing the MLK Natatorium discussed their schedule and offerings

Economic Development Committee Chair, Chris Balch

• Rick Hudson mentioned that they abstained from a vote on 303 Oakland Avenue
