After more than 13 years in the heart of East Atlanta village, Earthshaking Music has relocated to a better, larger and more convenient space. Owners David and Lisa Strohauer made the decision to move after a unique opportunity presented itself earlier this year.
“The old store was almost bursting at the seams, and when Charlie’s Tradin’ Post on McDonough Boulevard became available – and the price was right – we jumped at it,” says David Strohauer.
Earthshaking Music began in the Strohauers’ living room, then moved into East Atlanta village in 1996. After a couple of years on Glenwood, the store moved into the former space at the corner of Stokeswood Avenue and Flat Shoals.
Over the past 13 years, Earthshaking Music built inventory to carry a wide range of musical instruments. The store has the largest collection of ethnic percussion in the Southeastern U.S. and recently began carrying band and orchestra instruments. Earthshaking Music has also been visible at many Atlanta festivals over the years, providing rental PA and other sound reinforcement equipment. Even though the location has changed, David Strohauer is committed to continuing Earthshaking’s participation in community events.
“The new store at the corner of McDonough Boulevard and Benteen is only a few miles from East Atlanta village. We’ve got a lot more parking and it’s going to be even easier for our customers to load and drop off equipment,” he says.
Strohauer is also confident that the new location will attract new business. “McDonough Boulevard is a pretty busy street. We’re still conveniently located for our current customers, and we’re hoping our increased visibility will attract new clients.”
Earthshaking Music is open 7 days a week, offering a wide selection of guitars, basses, amplifiers, microphones, drums, cymbals, keyboards, harmonicas, ukuleles, mandolins, banjos, as well as the city’s largest offering of guitar and bass effects pedals. Among its services, Earthshaking Music offers repair for string instruments, horns, and electronic equipment. The new store also has improved lesson rooms and teachers for guitar, bass, ukulele, mandolin, drums, band and piano.
“And soon, we’ll have a brand-new studio recording space as well,” says Strohauer.
The establishment of a new business on McDonough Boulevard could spark more commercial activity in the area, which has also seen some residential development over the past few years.
