The Friends of East Atlanta Library just finished celebrating the library’s seventh anniversary at 4 Flat Shoals Avenue and followed up with an artist reception for Toney Fey, whose work was on display during June. By the time this article reaches mailboxes, the BATL Storytelling Festival will just about be in full seing at the libray on July 21. But get your book donattions ready because august brings collection time for all of those books that have been cluttering up your house.
The Friends will begin collecting books for their annual East Atlanta Village Strut book sale on Saturday, August 18. Anyone who hasbooks to donate that are clean and in good shape can bring them to the library during regular operating hours.The Friends ask that books not be left outside at the front door they may get damaged or may become a fire hazard. The book sale is the Friends’ largest fundraiser. Money from the sale is used for programs and supplies that are not covered by the regular library budget. The sale allows the Friends to give extra support and helps to make our library a special unit of the Atlanta Fulton County Library system. The book collection drive ends in September. Speaking of programming, if you missed the ice cream donated by Morelli’s and cupcakes by East Atlanta neighbor Bob Turner. You also could have joined the roomful of kids and parents who saw a “Wild Things” folk tales puppet show by Gina Root and students from Academe of the Oaks. If you didn’t make it to the artists’ reception, you didn’t get to enjoy a Friday evening with wine, art, and about 50 art lovers who attended.
