Dekalb Elected Officials’ Reports
Dekalb Commissioner Nicole Massiah’s Office: Isaac White from NM Office Update. First day back of meetings for Board of Commissioners; going to be having a town halls coming and various events coming up before year end. Q: Regarding Splost $$, Greenleaf Road was supposed to be paved last year, has been told it will be paved and it was scheduled last year but has not happened, can there be an update provided? A: Mr. White will email president@eaca.netwith an answer by the end of this week. (iwhite@dekalbcountyga.gov).
Public Safety Update
Zone 6 Update: New Zone 6 major. Oct. 1 is the 20th anniversary of EASP, a promotion will be coming out so please keep an eye out for an offer coming up. A few new features will be coming out as well. Sgt. Smart: crime is down 14% over the last 28 days. Q: Major mail theft along Flat Shoals, last incident 12 homes in a row were counted, report was filed and neighbor was told someone was apprehended, can this be confirmed? A: Sgt. Smart will look into it and let us EACA president know the outcome.

Parks & Greenspace Report – Bill Gould, Tim Cook, Chase Miller, Brownwood Park Cleanup Schedule. Great cleanup event in Brownwood with Trees Atlanta this past Saturday on Aug. 8, cleaning up a lot of kudzu – Yay.! Three more events are coming up on the 2nd Saturday of every month through November. Sign up through eaca.net/calendar or the Trees Atlanta website. Trees Atlanta is still working in Ormewood forest to cleanup for the forest invasives.
Ormewood Forest Gala “Brunch,” Sunday, Aug. 23, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at Flat Shoals Farm, 749 Flat Shoals Ave.; a lot of great sponsors. All are welcome; family friendly, Stormy the Owl may make an appearance. Will also be seeking volunteers to help plant natives in October with grant money that was awarded through Park Pride.
Neighbor in Need – Robin Polster: East Atlanta Poker Fest (Benefiting Neighbor in Need) – Sept.12, 11 a.m., Midway Pub. Check in begins at 10:30 a.m.; play starts at 11 a.m.; late registration at 12 p.m., buy-in $50, re-buy-in $35 (cash, app payments, credit cards). All money raised goes back into NIN to help Seniors with home repairs. Currently seeking businesses to sponsor as well as for raffle prizes. As well as volunteers to work the event. Council Member Bakhtiari’s Office & Community Discussion
A representative from Council Member Bakhtiari’s office will provide a brief update and take questions from neighbors. They’ll also stick around after the meeting for anyone who wants to ask additional. questions, raise a concern, or have a longer conversation. We’ll also open the floor for brief community comments, concerns, or announcements relevant to East Atlanta. Speakers will have 1-2 minutes to share. Longer discussions may be moved to after the meeting to help us keep things moving.
