Campers will go on nature hikes, try their hands at beginner-level survival skills, and play tons of outdoor games. It’s a perfect mix of fun and play for kids who love nature and being active. Each day is a new adventure where campers learn the basics of survival, tackle obstacle courses, and explore natural habitats. There will be exciting games, storytelling, hands-on discovery, scavenger hunts, and plenty of adventure. April 17-20 and April 24-27: illumine with curatorial partner Cat Eye Creative. illumine, Oakland Cemetery’s annual signature after-dark arts event, is returning in April with new curatorial partner Cat Eye Creative. For two consecutive weekends in April, Oakland becomes a gallery for local and international artists to explore and experiment with creative light-centered art installations. Featured artists include Vanna Black, Kevin Chambers, FRKO, Bojana Ginn, Angie Jerez, Navin June Norling, and VAYNE. Tickets are on sale now.

East Atlanta Chess Club. Meetings every Wednesday at Branan Towers, 1200 Glenwood Avenue. Weekly rated tournament 6:00pm-10:00pm, and free play for those players who want to play casually. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

East Atlanta Runs/Pushing Up Daisies 5K Garden Tour and Party. Saturday May 3. Sylvester Cemetery 2073 Braeburn Circle (corner of Braeburn and Clifton) and gardens all around the East Atlanta neighborhood. 5K Run 8:30, Garden Tours 11:00am-3:00pm, Party in the Cemetery 3:00pm-6:00pm. New this is year is a 5K that starts before the Garden Tour. Come run or walk this 5K through the historic East Atlanta Village to benefit local nonprofit East Atlanta Kids Club and other community organizations. Heads up Strut 5K participants: This is a brand-NEW route that takes you through Historic Sylvester Cemetery Enjoy the 5K Run/Walk, the Runners Village, DJ, and Finisher Prizes. There is still time to get your tickets for the Strut-ponsored Pushing up Daisies Garden Tour and PARTY to benefit for East Atlanta’s own historic Sylvester Cemetery. Finish the day with a party in the cemetery enjoying music, food, and drinks. All proceeds are split between the Historic Sylvester Cemetery Foundation and the East Atlanta Strut (coming September 27-save the date!), both all-volunteer, neighborhood, non-profits.
