Call to Order–7:30pm. President’s Introduction: All Grant Park neighbors are invited to the May GPNA Gathering on May 14 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Gateway Green; 684 Boulevard. GPNA confirmed the appointment of Carl Rowland as Legacy Neighbor Ad Hoc Committee Chair for the remainder of 2022. GPNA confirmed the appointment of Amber Dawn Scott as Philanthropic Chair for the remainder of 2022. Announcement of the award of the Community Impact Grant with NPU-W for sign toppers. Public Official Update: Jason Winston, Councilperson for District 1 gave an update. Update on Cherokee; received final pricing on the project and will be doing an internal review. Following review, the project will commence. The Southeast portion of Beltline approved and Councilmember Winston will meet with Senator Ossoff this week. Two processes to advocate for stop signs: put in a request into 311 or send a request to Councilmember Winston’s office at jwinston@atlanta.gov or 404-290-7347. It’s best to coordinate with neighbors to show support from multiple constituents.
Special Orders
Item One – Public Safety: Captain Sullivan from Atlanta Fire Rescue gave an update – Call volume for Atlanta Fire Rescue (2k calls per week) and Station 10 (6-8 per day). No zone 6 update. Vehicle Larcenies – 19 in the community for the month of March and 6 to date for April. 911 Calls and Hold Times are extended. Reminder to neighbors to stay on the phone. Overview of two main Fulton County Juvenile Justice Court Programs: CHINS (Child in Need of Services) – Pre-adjudication prevention where a child can be referred to necessary services. Steps When Juvenile is Detained – DIA takes a report from the police officer and then there are a series of criteria where the juvenile is listed. Item Two – Land Use & Zoning: No GPNA updates, but a reminder that there are many applications coming through NPU-W.
Item Three – Homes & History: Preservation Minute – overview of how to shore bouncy floors. With a dirt crawlspace, dig and pour footings that can have stainless anchor plates set into them. 4 x 4 or 6×6 pressure treated posts can be bolted in and attached with bolts to new beams running perpendicular to your joists to support (not jack up) the floors in their current level. Item Five – Technology Committee: Update that the website refresh is in process. Call for Committee Volunteers – Content writers interested in joining the committee can connect with Stephanie at technology@gpna.org or 404-483-9449.
Item Six – Fundraising Committee: GPNA will be at the Grant Park Farmers Market on the last Sunday of each month throughout the summer months. Neighbors are encouraged to stop by to meet leadership, purchase a hat, or purchase a sunburst.
