Local Dancers Finish Second in National Step Up 3D Dance Dub Contest

By Jean Hallman
Dance 411 Studio’s entry in the Walt Disney Studios Step Up 3D Dance Dub Contest finished in second place. The contest was used to promote the release of the 2010 Step Up 3D film. Video entries were posted online where fans were encouraged to vote for their favorite. The Dance 411 Studios submission received over 56,000 views and lost to a studio in Miami by only a few hundred votes.
The 411 entry was directed by Mike Peele who was a principal dancer in the Step Up 3D movie. Peele along with his students and other 411 instructors filmed the nonstop dance video that began on Moreland Avenue and progressed inside the Dance 411 Studio. The video also included dance groups Jungle Boogie and Royal Flush from the MTV hit Randy Jackson’s America’s Best Dance Crew.
“This experience has been a blessing for me. I got to showcase the talent of some of the dancers who live and breathe dance in Atlanta,” said Peele. “These dancers got the chance to be seen for what they are…amazing!”
Peele is currently working on national and international projects, including a new BET dance show with choreographer Laurieann Gibson. To see his work in person, you can catch one of his hip-hop classes or workshops at Dance 411 Studios.
