3rd Annual Parkside Screen on the Green to feature The Lego Batman Movie

By Rebecca Wallace
On Friday, September 29, the PTA of Parkside Elementary School will welcome families, friends, and neighbors to a viewing of The Lego Batman Movie for the 2017 Parkside Screen on the Green on campus at 685 Mercer Street. For the third year in a row, the PTA will transform the field area located on the left side of the school into an outdoor movie-watching venue. Moviegoers can start gathering around 7:00pm, with the movie starting around 7:30pm. Admission will be $3 for adults, which includes one free child admission, and $1 for each additional child, with a maximum of $10 per family. Attendees are welcome to bring their own refreshments, but light concessions also will be available for purchase. While fees mainly go to cover the event costs, proceeds will go to the PTA in its support of Parkside.
“We have an amazing school yard with great spaces, so we thought this would be a fun way to share it with our surrounding community,” said Parkside PTA President Leigh Schrope. “And what a great, relaxing way to enjoy the cooler weather of fall.”
Speaking of fall, mark your calendar for the inaugural King Fall Festival hosting feeder school students. For the first time in our cluster’s history, students from Parkside, Toomer, Burgess Peterson Academy, Benteen, Michelle & Barack Obama Academy (formerly Stanton), and Dunbar are invited to a joint fall festival at King Middle and enjoy the activities for free. All other community members and families will be able to purchase tickets for a nominal fee. In addition to the traditional fall festival activities, all event-goers will enjoy a live DJ, reptile show, dance performances, and more. The first-ever joint fall festival will be held on October 28 from 10:00am until 2:00pm. More details will follow in the next Porch Press.
Parkside’s community events and many of the programs put on by the PTA are made possible by its generous community partners. Parkside’s 2017-2018 sponsors include Intown Pediatrics, ISU Paragon, and The Neighborhood Ballet.
Parkside Elementary serves the Grant Park, Summerhill, Boulevard Heights, Ormewood Park, Woodland Hills, Glenwood Park, and Cabbagetown neighborhoods. For more information on Parkside, please call 404-802-4100 or visit www.Atlanta.k12.Ga.US/Parkside or www.facebook.com/ParksideElementaryPTA.
